I’m a bit frustrated with my meditation app today. (Ironic, I know.) I have used several over the years, and at the moment I prefer the 10% Happier app. I love the teachers, I love Dan Harris’ wry look into the world of meditation, and I love that you get a teacher you can e-mail if you have questions.
To be fair, the app is relatively new and have made great strides in terms of UI in late 2016. BUT that doesn’t stop it having a few frustrating things going. Mainly I’m thinking about the the buildup of gigs of material. Technically you stream the content, but you can download it before hand (which is great!). However, even if you do stream it, the streamed content is actually downloaded as far as I can tell. Again, I’m fine with that. What frustrates me is that there doesn’t seem to be any way to delete this content without deleting the app and reinstalling it again. OK, so that’s not a huge deal, but it is annoying. Especially since I’m one of those weirdoes who constantly run up against even my 64 GB ‘restriction’. Where it went overboard for me today was that I accidentally clicked the wrong button when I deleted it and removed all my mindfulness-minutes from Apple Health. That irritated me. Sure, my fault technically. But still.
Perhaps this was a karmic way of testing my mindfulness. After all, one of the main reasons I had to stop using Headspace was that I got caught up in the gamification of it, rather than caring about the meditation. Just didn’t work for me. Perhaps I cared too much about my mindfulness entry every day. But I will still call this out.
Another thing I’ve asked for, on a more positive note, is a list of recommended videos and books. It’s been passed on to the developers as far as I know, so maybe.
I do not mean to cast any doubt on how much I love this app by writing this. It is still by far my favorite. Perhaps that is why such a minor thing annoys me so much. Like a nick in the paint of my car. It doesn’t actually matter, but it is annoying.
